This is the first of Patrick’s novels that I’ve read – the extract in newbooks piqued my interest so I took the plunge! I thought it was a nice, easy read. I found the historical detail very interesting and I thought the character portrayal was very realistic. I enjoyed it, and if I had to give it a rating, it’d be 3 and-a-half (can I give the half?!) stars out of 5. Plenty of things for reading groups to discuss too, so a 4 out of 5 for them!
