The book begins with the murder of a married couple, then we meet Cynthia and her family. As the story continues we find Cynthia is indirectly linked to a series of events and there is no logical reason as to why. As we meet other characters and as the book reaches its conclusions, the reasons become clear but not without several surprises along the way. Reading this book was almost like being on a rollercoaster at times.
This was an excellent read, lots of twists and turns I found myself reading into the small hours. I liked that the book spent time with each of the characters so you got to know a bit about each of them and how they linked. Some characters were likeable and a few others were not.
As I read the comments from other authors afterwards, I realised that this was a follow on from another of Linwood Barclay’s books.I didn’t know this before, however it can also be read on its own. This is the first book I have read by Linwood Barclay and if this is anything to go by it will not be the last.
As a personal read I would recommend this. I think for a reading group I think I would again recommend this. It would certainly liven up the discussion.
