Many of us are members of book clubs, but very few of us will be members of the the type of book club that features in this novel. It is a book group that studies the acknowledged classics of erotic literature, from the likes of Anais Nin. Salter and Nabokov, to many others.
Holly White, the protagonist of the story is an innocent, she wears a ring that says True Love Waits, so she is unprepared for a book group which has such a liberal attitude to its reading material, but as the story progresses, so does Holly’s comfort with the material she is reading, the people that she meets as a result of the club. Her own sexual fantasies change and progress as the novel moves along.
The central character is very well drawn, as are secondary characters, the research from other sources has been well integrated into the story, and although it is not the type of book I would have chosen to read, and the erotic aspect of the novel may make it an unsuitable choice for some book groups, and readers, if you like this genre, or you would like an easy guide to what else is already out there, then this could be the novel for you.
