AWC: AYR WRITERS’ CLUB BOOK REVIEW COMPETITION

Article published on September 16, 2015.

Sheila A Grant is a major contributor to nudge and nb with reviews and event reports. She is also an active member of the Ayr Writers’ Club (AWC) so when she mentioned they were building up to their annual competition we wondered whether we could help. Sheila takes up the story.

The committee created the Book Review competition in 2008 after the Scottish Association of Writers (SAW) had added a similar competition to their conference syllabus. At that time Bioforce/A. Vogel (an Ayrshire company renowned for the manufacture and distribution of traditional herbal remedies) had been supportive of the club. They were delighted when we suggested adding their name to the trophy and the club is grateful for their continuing support.

Ayr Writers’ Club has always encouraged members towards publication in a variety of genres, a route that has helped a large number of members to publication success. With so many keen readers it is inevitable that we share information on recommended books enjoyed by members.

The club is very grateful to Guy for agreeing to judge the competition this year and I do hope that it will be good publicity for nb – my most favourite magazine – and nudge.

We look forward to publishing the reviews as they come in – to follow them simply use AWC as the search – and announcing the winner in due course.
